At EHS, we care about the health and wellness of you and your family. Each of our Health Hub newsletters is designed to share attainable ways to maintain healthy habits and improve your overall quality of life. This issue dives into disease prevention for men and women!

October Highlight – Women’s Health

Many of the unique health risks faced by women are preventable with healthy habits and regular medical exams. Seeking care from your doctor is critical in avoiding serious illness or catching and treating diseases early.

Did You Know…

  • Women are more likely to die from a heart attack than men?
  • Women are more likely to show signs of depression and anxiety than men?
  • Osteoarthritis affects women more than men?

Important Health Screenings For Women

In addition to regular doctor visits, medical experts recommend a series of specific tests for women that promote good health and prevent the onset of serious conditions:

  • Mammogram
  • Pap Smear
  • Pelvic Exam
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening

Please speak with your doctor about age specifications for these exams based on your medical history and family history. Additionally, ask your doctor about other health screenings that might be beneficial for you.

November Highlight – Men’s Health

On average, men die approximately six years before women. Why? For largely preventable reasons, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide.

What Can Men Do to Reduce Their Risk Factors?

  • Spend Time with Good People: Stay connected to friends and family.
  • Talk and Listen: Globally, every minute, a man dies by suicide. In the U.S., 75% of suicides are men. Just being there for someone by listening and giving your time can save a life.
  • Know Your Numbers: Early detection can be life-saving for prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
  • Get Up and Get Moving: Make small daily changes such as taking the stairs, parking further from the building entrance, and going on walks during your lunch break or with friends/family.

Important Health Screenings For Men

In addition to regular doctor visits, some tests and screenings are specific to men to promote good health and prevent the onset of serious conditions:

  • Prostate Cancer Screening
  • Testicular Cancer Screening
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening
  • Skin Cancer Screening

Please speak with your doctor about age specifications for these exams based on your medical history and family history. Additionally, ask your doctor about other health screenings that might be beneficial for you.
