6 Ways To Prepare For Your Wellness Screening

6 Ways To Prepare For Your Wellness Screening
Wellness

Whether it’s your first time participating in a wellness screening or something you do annually, taking this step is one of the best ways to monitor health risks. Wellness screenings (or biometric screenings) run a variety of tests that can help identify abnormalities. Catching illness early, when it’s most treatable, is the key to disease prevention.

So, how do you ensure that your screening results come out as accurately as possible? It is important to note that outside variables such as diet, medication, and stress levels can impact your results.

Here are six ways to prepare for your next wellness screening:

1. Fast Eight Hours If Possible

Unless directed otherwise by your doctor, fasting is one of the best ways to ensure accurate results. Food and sweetened beverages can alter your lipid levels, meaning it is best practice to limit the consumption of these items right before your screening. If coffee is the only thing that gets you up in the morning, don’t fret – drinking black coffee (as well as black tea) is still okay! If your appointment is early in the day, fast overnight and save that latte and breakfast sandwich for later.

2. Stay Hydrated

We recommend drinking two glasses of water one to two hours before your screening.

3. Avoid Alcohol

In addition to fasting, limiting alcohol intake 24 hours prior to your appointment is highly recommended. Alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, spirits, and mixed drinks can cause blood sugar and blood pressure to rise, which may lead to an inaccurate reading.

4. Take Prescribed Medications

It is important to continue taking your regular prescribed medications. If you have any questions about how medications might affect your screening results, contact your doctor. Once you have your results, your doctor can help determine if any abnormal readings may be linked to a side effect.

5. Manage Your Stress

Wellness screenings are quick, easy, and no reason to cause stress. Keep in mind that stress can raise blood pressure, which is good to note if you are someone easily nervous during screenings or if you happen to be stressed due to another factor in your day. Fortunately, our friendly team of medical professionals make all of our screenings a welcoming environment!

6. Review Program Details

Depending on your program’s specific details, you may be required to provide an insurance card, payment, or another important document. Make sure to come prepared with any necessary items.

Once your screening is complete and you’ve received your results, read through your report to identify any health risks. We recommend reviewing your full report with your doctor so that they have your latest information and can recommend additional next steps. Congratulations on making your health a priority. You’re on your way to a healthier you!
